It is said that ‘behind every successful man there is a woman’. Mr. Barack Hussein Obama, the President of the Super Power and most powerful man in the world has proved to the hilt this old proverbial saying. Mr. Obama is in India on a four day visit. He will have three working days and on the fourth day, he will leave India. India knew very well his intentions and it was to take with him thousands of job opportunities for his country. In fact we, Indians are proud to see a powerful nation coming to India with a want list. This proved our buying capacity and our upward march to occupy as one of the powerful countries of the world. No doubt he removed several trade barriers which were there against our organizations and made us to stand shoulder to shoulder with nations who are trying to expand their scientific/industrial horizon.
One should always remember when a national leader of another country visits a friendly country he comes not only to nourish the already existing friendship but to take back with him some benefits which he is able to create in the host country. Days are gone when we used to wait for these big brothers to come and throw at us some favours which we used to run to catch them like the flood hit or marooned people. Now we are an emerging economy. Of course from his talks one can make out that Mr. Obama thinks that we are already a country which has emerged or risen as a great nation. What greater certificate do we need than from the President of a great nation who thinks that we have already become a great nation. He said “ you are already risen as a great nation”. This recognition has it’s own worth and in India’s case, it makes all the difference because hardly about 20 years ago, our then Prime Minister had taken our gold reserve to England to raise a loan to pay the interest part of the debts.
Above all, ours is a nation of young people. It is said that even in the year 2050 our nation shall remain as a nation of youth power. One can make out if one goes to any western countries to find the difference. A country’s strength is gauged among other things by its economic resources and the youth power. No doubt we are a nation of 115 crores as against 39 crores about 70 years ago. The world used to look at us with skepticism as to how this “poor†country would become self supporting. They did not think that this youth power could do all the difference. In fact it has done and the country is progressing in manifold in every sphere of nation building activities.
Be that as it may, the matter to be considered is how do we justify the old proverbial saying quoted in the beginning. That is seen from the activities of Mrs. Mitchell Obama who by her social activities which have no political overtones, has won the hearts of Indians. Her participation in the programme with underprivileged children arranged by a NGO completely knocked out the Indian audience. She participated in a dance and she danced her way into the hearts and minds of Indians. She became a hit overnight and her dance with “Koli†dancers again further confirmed her influence in endearing the Indian masses to the American President. Yes Madam, you have danced your way into the hearts of one and every one of us Indians. We will be eagerly waiting to see you come again. Your popularity chart has crossed all previous records. Congratulations and a Happy Deepavali.
