So Modi is removed or suspended for the time being. That is ‘suspended pending enquiry’. But Modi says that ” I am still the Commissioner of IPL.” This makes one think whether Modi knows why domestic enquiries are held. Does he know how in his own Companies employees who are guilty of misdemenours are treated by his Management by holding domestic enquiry. He will do well if he recapitulates something which took place under Janatha Party Government which had conducted a raid on the house of Inidira Gandhi to find out incriminating evidence re property etc. and thereafter given a clean chit.
That is in the case of Inira Gandhi. Perhaps Modi would do well if he knows how these domestic inquiries work in India. Usually the Inquiry Committee is constituted by the ‘people’ who agree with the Management. I wonder whether it can be different in the case of BCCI. I am not casting any aspersions on the integrity etc. of the Inquiry Committee. But why should a Body hold an inquiry, with it’s own members in the panel of Enquiry Committee, that too in respect of a matter, where so much of dirt has already been spilled around and where he has been prima facie held to be ‘guilty’ of all the misfeasances. If the Inquiry Committee holds otherwise, the people who have been made to believe by the ‘media trial’ ( a popular word going round these days), that he is the Ravaan of our story. ( I hope I have spelt the word right! It is not R A Vaan but Ravaan.) I picked up the right character because our mythology does attribute some good qualities even to Ravaan. Therefore just because Modi created a ‘good product’, it cannot be said he is not guilty of various charges made by the BCCI. Modi should know this and proceed in the matter. His entire attention should to be to project his personality as ‘ victim’ of his opponents vendetta. By calling himself as a Commissioner now, he may expose himself to public ridicule. I feel that he should get a fair trial/enquiry by following all the principles of natural justice and then should show to the world how he derailed the real purpose behind IPL to achieve his own personal agenda.
Do not be under the impression that I support Modi or I find him as the creator of IPL. I always feel the real creator of IPL is Kapil Dev who has now been consigned to a corner by the BCCI. It was his idea supported by Zee TV which has been carried forward by BCCI . Therefore I think if Kapil Dev who has in his heart the interest of Indian Cricket and who always felt for the development of cricket among youngsters, the IPL would have become a real cricket product as said by Neville Cardus ” a gentleman’s game.”
