Depiction of mother India with Indian national flag
A couple of days ago, my sister just forwarded a write up on U.S.President Obama’s acceptance speech as Presidential candidate in the Democratic Party convention. I read it and I wrote to her the following which I thought I should share with my followers and those who read my blog. Of course it was her say that it was sent to me not with any intention for me to appreciate but only to have a glance how political critics from India have accepted it. I have made certain improvement to the said letter.
Truly speaking, I do not understand what is there to appreciate. I heard that speech for about half an hour. I did not see the same “jalak” ( radiance ) on his face as he had when he gave the call for “change”. I felt he was not confident. I found that he had become lean and weary. He ran upto the podium in his usual style because of habit. They say habits die hard and the same may be the case with him. That movement need not be a sign of exuberance of confidence. Thereafter I found his speech uninteresting perhaps it was his election speech addressed to his constituency. We in India cannot understand the effect of his speech. It has to be appreciated as an American does.
Some in India like anything foreign. Kiran Bedi, who is an active crusader against corruption and a member of Anti Corruption Team was asked on her reaction to the said speech. She said that the speech should be read over to the Prime Minister of India. Instead of that she could have done some introspection. She was the one who made fun at the parliamentarians and hence she was not the person who should have been asked about the reaction on election speech. I think she should have lamented for the virtual collapse of parliamentary system but as misfortune would have it, she does not believe in that institution. She has her own brand for such institution. We Indians do not react when opposition parties, barring the left, destroying each and every institution in their mad race to the prime ministers “gaddiâ€. ( throne ) CPM ( Communist Party ) should have supported them as they are in the opposition and especially pure communism did not believe in state as an institution, but in this case, strange but true, they speak for democratic system. Two sessions of parliament went hay wire because of the protest etc. of the political parties inside the parliament. One should wonder why the parliamentarians are sent to the parliament. Is it to shout slogans and abstain from the proceedings or prevent the parliament from functioning. Why should we employ anyone if the employee refuses to work. Rightly or wrongly, the constitution has given a five year term for every parliamentarians. It cannot be reduced by any undemocratic means. If the members refuse to allow the parliament form conducting themselves, then the only alternative is to send those members home as a student is dismissed when he refuses to attend the class. Unfortunately there are no such rules.
The parliament is held up on the allegations of scams and irregularities indulged in by the ruling government political party But one should know that all these scams, irregularities which are attacked by Opposition Parties were not the result of their study or investigation. They have not exposed anything till now. They just adopt it from the media or from the supreme court proceedings so that they can get platform to attack the government and embarrass the Government and at the time score a brawny point.Media wants them so that they can make their “debate” interesting and lively. The Opposition Parties do not want the explanation of the Government to go into the parliamentary proceedings and hence the proceedings are stalled.. They do not want the parliament to function. They do not want the Government to pass legislations nor take steps for alleviating the poverty line of the aam aadmi. Main bedrock of parliamentary system is the right to hear and be heard. The democratic system requires parliament to function. But sadly, it has become a casualty. I feel sorry to see that the parliamentarians are showing scant respect to the parliamentary system. How can any one build a castle on the ashes of democratic institution— —- Where can this end. If opposition parties win, do you think other contesting party will allow parliament to function. We know how they are plundering the mother earth in all the states.
Are we going towards anarchy and chaos and lawlessness. Perhaps something good might come out at the end of the chaotic situation.
as Lord Krishna said in the Bhagvad Gita in Chapter 4 verse 7 as follows:
“yada yada hi dharmasya glanir bhavati bharata
abhyutthanam adharmasya tadatmanam srjamyaham
paritranaya sadhunam vinasaya ca duskrtam
dharma-samsthapanarthaya sambhavami yuge yuge’
Whenever and wherever there is a decline in religious practice
O descendant of Bharata, and a predominant rise of irreligion—
at that time I descend Myself
It looks as though if highly qualified and experienced people “ransack†the parliamentary system in this way and hijack the democratic institution and are bent upon acquiring power by any means, what is the future for democracy in this country. I am worried for the future of India, I am worried for the future of our children. I am worried ……..
I wonder like the above verse whether something good will come out of this chaotic condition!!!! ‘Yada Yada hi darmasya ……..sambhavami yuge yuge’ I will descend on earth.
